BSG on Slashdot

Slashdot is reporting something that we have known for a while, but it is still fun to see Battlestar Galactica mentioned on one of the most popular geek internet sites out there:

"GateWorld has had a look on five new episodes of the upcoming season 2 of Battlestar Galactica. Beware of spoilers. In other news, season 2 will be shown first in the US by the Sci-Fi Channel starting July 15, with UK's Sky One following in October." If only UHD would simulcast in HD this would be perfect.

Read the discussion thread for witty geek banter and inside jokes!

Sneak peek of BSG Season 2

The folks at BSG News have a link to a sneak peek promo that ran during Stargate:

The Sci Fi Channel aired a sneak peek of Battlestar Galactica's second season during their "Sci Fi Monday" Stargate SG-1 lineup. There were several small clips which showed scenes on the planet Kobol.

Watch the video

There are some minor spoilers, but nothing that kept me away. If you don't want to know about Adama you might not want to watch the video... but considering they are running this on the SciFi channel, they aren't trying to keep it a secret.

BSG wins a Spacey Award

The 2005 Spacey Awards were held last night and Battlestar Galactica took home an honor:

FAVOURITE LIMITED TV SERIES
Nominees: Battlestar Galactica, The 4400, Kingdom Hospital, ReGenesis

Award Presenter: Brian Henson, executive producer and director of
Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars

Winner: Battlestar Galactica - Accepted by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Tricia Helfer and James Callis

See the full list of winners

Unfortunately, that was the only award that BSG won. I was surprised to see Enterprise take home so many awards. I am a huge Star Trek fan, but I am sorry, that show just wasn't top quality. Maybe the awards were sympathy based?

But, congrats to BSG for a win! Unlike Enterprise, we'll get another shot next year!

Battlestar Religion Redux

I don't like when websites leave the publish dates off their articles. When they come through my feed reader, I am unable to tell if they are new or not! Oh well... these are new to me... I think. They are a few interesting articles on Battlestar Galactica's religious roots.

Both are by Ellen Leventry of Beliefnet. The first is an article, the second an interview with Ron Moore:

Born-again 'Battlestar'
Debates about sin and redemption? "Battlestar" has ‘em. Philosophical inquiries into religio-political motivations? Got those too. The idea of the legitimacy of the soul? The battle between monotheism and paganism? Holy lands and prophets? Check, check, and check.

The Soulds of Cylons
Six’s belief system and the way she practices it is very specific to her character and her model of Cylon. She is sort of a Madonna/whore made real and has a very strict, if odd, sense of God and what God wants. Leobon is more of a thinker and has a more esoteric idea of how things work in the universe. But they both proceed from the same root, that they both believe there is one God who sets everything in motion and has a real sort of impact and interaction with the universe.

Season one soundtrack shipped!

I just got an email from La la Land Records that my copy of the Battlestar Galactica season one soundtrack has shipped! I should have it in a few days! Look for a review coming soon!

Have you bought yours?

Season 2 spoilers from the Great Link

Chris Howell sent me information about some BSG season two spoiler information over at his website, The Great Link:

Issue #190 of the UK’s TV Zone Magazine includes an interview with Toni Graphia, former writer on Quantum Leap and Roswell, and now co-producer and writer for Sci-Fi’s Battlestar Galactica. Toni talks to Steven Eramo about joining the show; Season 1; And of course, Season 2

Go get the spoilers

There are also some spoilers over at Hollywood North Report if you didn't listen to the Subject to Discussion episode from last week.

It is never too late for an intelligent recap!

Battlestar Galactica News links over to the blog of the Occidental Chinaman. There you will find a very intelligent recap of BSG Season 1:

After seeing all thirteen episodes of season one, I find myself quite pleased with how "Galactica' is developing as a series. It's not only the best sci-fi on TV right now, it's one of the best shows overall. (I say that with a heavy sci-fi geek bias, so take my proclamations with a grain of salt.) I definitely want to see some more, and next season is supposed to be twenty episodes. Droolage...

I have to give a hand to Glen Larson and company for having the guts to end the series with not one but five cliffhangers -- Adama being shot; the president's arrest; Caprica Boomer's pregnancy (and Number Six's?); Starbuck's quest for the arrow; and the fate of Gaius and the rest stranded on Kobol. It's a daring move and one which will require a lot of effort on the part of the writers to resolve in a satisfactory manner.

Plot-wise, I'm enjoying the fact that the show's issues are more complex than the Manichean humanist universe of most Trek shows. Unlike the "It's just a show" crowd, I'm always going to look at things through a political and religious lens. I found allusions to the present-day situation in Turkey in Adama's anti-democratic coup against President Roslin because she allowed her religious beliefs to dictate policy. At the very least it illustrated a profound ethical tension between situational utilitarianism (Adama's position) and telelogical religious ethics (the president's position), and also presented separation of church and state issues in a manner that breaks away from the American liberal-conservative framework.

I agree with the Chinaman that Dr. Gaius Baltar is the strongest character and Apollo is the weakest (as far as writing is concerned).

BSG Wallpaper Challenge

Battlestar Galactica News posts a link to a fun graphic artist challenge:

Another example of what resourceful fans are doing while waiting for Season 2 to premiere in July 2005! The Apollo Starbuck Fan Fiction Group, besides writing awesome fan fiction, is also hosting a Battlestar Galactica wallpaper contest. Try your hand at a Kara Thrace/Lee Adama wallpaper.

Crossover SG1/BSG fiction madness!

There is a good amount of quality BSG fiction floating around. This story caught my eye because it is a crossover piece between Stargate SG-1 and BSG. I noticed it because a good friend of mine is a huge Stargate fan. I don't watch the show, only because I really don't have time to fit it in with my other Sci Fi obsessions (Star Trek DVDs), but this piece of fiction was a fun little ride.

You can't go wrong with icons of Six

Like the title of this post proclaims, you just can't go wrong with Six icons. Mintroses posts these to the Icons100 LJ community. Although, these might not classify as BSG icons since some of them take place in a bath tub... I am a shower man myself, but I am not one to discriminate against different types of washing technology.

Get your six icons while they are hot

Update 5/28/2005 11:30pm

I have to link to these icons too because they are also awesome.
