The debate: Reality or Disgusting?
Head over to the Lee Adama is a Clyon website. There is a good discussion going about a letter that was posted by the Colonial Fleets forum condemning the show for glorifying rape in the Pegasus episode. It raises the question, is BSG crossing the line when telling it's story? There are some very good comments posted in that thread.

The SyFy Portal has a good review of Pegasus posted that discusses many of these same issues:
Since the second season started, I have constantly been in a state of awe with the level of storytelling each episode of BSG has shown by creating an intricately woven tapestry of action, drama, political and religious intrigue and suspense. But never did I think that bringing all of it together in a single episode would be such an overwhelming success.
“Pegasus” was that success.

Ron Moore has responded to the Colonial Fleets letter. I see it as a thoughtful and reasoned response. He defends his views as a writer, eliminating the assumptions made by the staff of Colonial Fleets.

It sounds like the saps at Colonial Fleets have been desperate for any reason to ignore the existence of a new version of Battlestar Galactica that doesn't match "their" vision for it, and they've siezed on this opportunity to get their way. Whatever. It's their site. And if they want characters who act decently all the time, they should stick to most of CBS's boring dramas and stick to their reclusive lives.
I find it interesting that one of their comments is about sympathizing with the 9/11 terrorists. Well, if the Cylons are supposed to be the 9/11 terrorists, and Colonial Fleets doesn't like seeing them treated decently, shouldn't they be THRILLED these Cylons/Terrorists were being raped?
Strange.

I just watched Pegasus, and I'm still in shock. This is some of the best sci fi I've ever seen. Frankly I couldn't give a crap what the haters say. Out with the old, in with the new.
And no, rape wasn't "glorified" in Pegasus. On the contrary, it's portrayed for what it is-- horrible. That's why Galactica's crew went apeshit. That's why there's gonna be a war. duh.

It seems that people at Lee Adama is a Cylon (those saying that "Pegasus" glorifies rape) are unaware of the definition of "glorify". "Depict" is not a synonym for "glorify", and I'd say that when two protagonists instigate an altercation in order to prevent said rape, BSG is, in fact, condemning the act of rape.
Then again, as others have already pointed out, it seems they're bound and determined to come up with some reason to ignore the masterpiece that is the new BSG, and this just happens to be their current convenient excuse.

The Colonial Fleets people have been saying it glorifies rape, not the Lee Adama is a Cylon people.

Good Lord. I don't think they were condoning it at all. It was freaking sick and it was supposed to be sick. It isn't exactly unusual for rape to be used as a weapon of war. I just hope they don't drop the ball on it and they do something to at least help the audience not feel so nauseated about it.
AS a rape survivor I really had a hard time with that episode, though. I thought I was going to hurl. I almost wish I didn't other watching it because now I am goign to have nightmares again. shyt. I hope they ram a gun up those guys' asses. Literally.
