« Mr. Brown visits BSG post-production | Main

So long, farewell, good bye

It is with a mixture of sadness and relief that I write this blog post. The Unofficial Battlestar Galactica Blog is officially closing up shop and entering retirement. The site will not go away anytime soon--there is far too much valuable content--but I will no longer be updating. This is the last post.

Due to my family, other web ventures, continued success at work, and other personal endeavours, I just don't have the time I once I had for scouring the BSG universe and running a site at the level of quality that I expect from myself. There are plenty of BSG sites out there now, some really great ones.

If you run a BSG blog, feel free to post the link in the comments so my readers can find it!

It has really been fun being a part of the Battlestar Glactica community. I have emailed and talked to some great people and have seen great outpourings of support and thanks. My best to you all!

Cheers,
Trapper Markelz

P.S. I can always be reached through my personal website and at trapper@tjmweb.com.

Dude... I'm really sorry to hear about this. Have you considered taking on contributors? That way the duties for posting are spread out across a few people. I'd love to contribute...

I'm just sorry to see you take this tact... I just found this blog and had become an avid reader.

sungoddess - I thought about other contributors, but then it wouldn't really be "my" site anymore... and that could even be more complicated, playing editor and such... I also thought if I did that, than I could just do my episode write ups, but at this point I can't even commit to that.

As I looked around at the other fan sites, they are all planning great things to do for the launch of Season three and I realized I don't have time to do anything. I probably won't even get to watch it until a few days later. It is just time for me to move on and let all those who are still really into it fill the space! Maybe that is you! Start your own BSG blog!

Thanks for all your great work Trapper. Your contributions to the BSG Community will be missed.
I've just launched a BSG Blog: Fracking Blog @ http://frackingblog.blogspot.com/
Hopefully everyone will find it to be an entertaining resource for the BSG Community.

Oh! So disappointed :(.

The tahmohpenikett.blogspot.com blog isn't bad, although there of course is a lot of content related specifically to tahmoh. but i always came to your site first. :)

I'm very sorry that this is your last post. I've relied on your blog for the latest info on BSG and enjoyed your posts. Best of luck on your other endeavours.

So say we all!

Hey, man - I'm sorry to hear the blog's going down! Thanks again for the continuous support, news, and great info -- It was nice getting to know you over email, and I wish you all the best. :)

And hey, everyone, I guess I'll take this moment to point out http://community.livejournal.com/battlestar_blog

It's a great place, lots of fans, news, stuff like that. I hope you'll head on over and bookmark it, and if you have a LiveJournal, please join up and become a member.

Trapper, all the best, man!! :)
So say we all!!

You were one of the first, and always one of the best Battlestar Galactica bloggers, so those of us who have BSG blogs, owe you a lot. You've always been a great source of information on BSG, and will be missed. Keep in touch with the BSG blog community...

I'm sorry to hear that the blog is closing. I've been reading this blog ever since season 1 and really admired the thoroughness. I especially enjoyed your thoughtful episode reviews. I hope you continue to enjoy Battlestar Galactica and thanks for all your hard work. You will be missed.

I'll miss your updates greatly but I hope life is good to you! Thanks for pointing out plenty of great BSG related information to all of us.

I just want to say that I really enjoyed your blog. Well done.

Time to kick back and just read some BSG blogs.

Sorry to hear that. I've been following your site for a while.

I'm going to miss this blog, but its been great. Good luck with everything!

Best of luck to you, sir! Your blog was one of the best and will be missed.

Like everyone else, I've bummed about this. This blog has been a great resource for the BSG community.

BTW, I run one of the other BSG blogs... Galacticaa (http://galacticaa.net ), and I'm also creator of the Galacticaa BSG widget for Dashboard and Yahoo Widgets (which was pretty popular last season).

Definitely gearing up for Season 3, and have a bunch of cool things planned for the site. A new widget and a few other surprises.

I'm also looking for some contributors and editors, so if you're interested in being part of another great Galactica blog, please drop me a line!

Best,
Patrick

awwww.... yours was my favorite bsg website trapper.

Though I can't say I'm terribly surprised. job... family... 360 voice... yeah, you were kinda crazy to have all that on your plate AND a fansite.

But alas... I'll see you on 360 voice. can't wait for the day my 360 emails me to yell at me for neglecting it in favor of that ps3 hussy.

Your's is "The BEST BSG Blog EVER!!!!!!"

I am totally going to miss it. Granted there are other blogs out there, and I've read them, but I always come back here. Your clean design easy to navigate links and witty humor kept bringing me back.

Goodluck in your other endeavors. We will sorely miss this blog.

Thanks for a wonderful Blog. You commentery on the episodes was spot on and thought provoking.

May you find your own personal 'earth'.

Ah -- very sorry to see you go.

I'll miss the episode updates the most, as I work abroad and rarely run into too many BSG fans to talk about the show with. Plus you wrote about what you enjoyed and avoided nitpicking obscure technical details and etc.

Hopefully this outpouring of compliments and support will force you to come out of retirement, ala Roger Clemens and Michael Jordan (at least, the first time) and every other person who has attempted to walk away while still at the top of their game.

Good luck, and many thanks! See you on New Caprica,

Josiah

Thanks for your great work! To use the vernacular: It's been Frakkin Awesome! This has been my primary source for BSG intel and am sorry to see it go, but take care.

Hi,

Another idea is maybe start a wiki about this... that way all of us can contribute. I know that Wikia has big starwars, lost, star trek, etc., wikis and they're pretty fun.

I think you just have to ask and they'll set it up and manage all the un-fun parts and we just get to contribute.

:)

Umm... BSG is WAY more important than the Xbox 360!

But for real though, your blog was awesome, checked it all the time. Sad to see you go... good luck and all the junk

Well i hate to hear this. I checked your blog every day for any bsg news. Good luck on everything you want to do and take care.

Sad news :-(
Thank you for everyhing.
Wish you good luck.

Really sorry to hear you won't have time to do this any more, Trapper. I've enjoyed the Unofficial Battlestar Blog immensely. Best of luck with everything.

Z.

We will all miss your updates on our favorite show. I started a site for news & merchandise related to the new series of Battlestar Galactica. Here is the address:
www.battlestaronline.com

Please visit when you have a chance.
Thanks,
Jay

Here is direct link to the site mentioned above:

Thanks,
Jay

Just a quick link to the BattlestarWiki
http://www.battlestarwiki.org

Episode guides, character bios and much much more. 2,915,280 hits and counting...

Just an extra note to all the people suggesting Wikia, the BattlestarWiki is much much larger than the one on Wikia and we welcome all contributors especially the people who expressed an interest on this blog :D

We are very sorry that this site has closed. It was one of the best Battlestar resources on the web.

Our own Battlestar blog is firing back up, though, after the long inter-season break. We try to create a comfortable place for intelligent discussion about the show.

We'd like to hear from other fans. Please visit us at "And They Have a Plan."

http://theyhaveaplan.blogspot.com

Sorry to hear about this site. I understand what you are talking about with time constraints however! This is a great page and i'm really glad you will leave it up for the future.

My other hangout is http://battlestarzone.com Everyone is welcome to stop by and see whats going on :)

Here's another Battlestar Galactica hangout. It's not a blog, it's more like a digg.com for fans of BSG. A social bookmark list of all the best websites, news, videos, and blog posts for Battlestar Galactica.

The Battlestar Galactica Spot:
http://www.fanpop.com/spots/battlestar-galactica

I really miss this site, it was very well done and updated often.

Is there a similar Galactica blog out there? There are a few listed above, but I've yet to find a good BSG site/blog that came close to the quality of this site.

I'm also sorry to see Battlestar Blog go by the wayside, but I understand the reasons. Actually, since people are also taking the opportunity to offer their own ports of call, I thought I'd mention another "Battlestar" hangout:

http://www.battlestarpegasus.com

An overview: BattlestarPegasus.com is dedicated to all the Battlestar Galactica series and is presently looking for content, particularly in the form of artwork (CGI, drawings, models). Essentially, the goal of BattlestarPegasus.com is to be a hub of news, information, and creativity from the Battlestar Galactica fandom. BSP.com will also be a place for fans to voice their opinions, whether it is to post podcasts, editorials, reviews, and the like.

Much like the Battlestar Wiki, an extremely successful web resource I started for the Battlestar sagas back in 2005, BattlestarPegasus.com will strive to be as interactive as possible, and the content for it generated and maintained by the fans.

And that's the direction that BattlestarPegasus.com is headed right now.

Right now, I am looking for people to submit and develop content for the website, as outlined here:

http://www.battlestarpegasus.com/submission-guidelines

I'm also looking for ideas and ways to make the website even better, mainly suggestions from fans on what they would like to see from a Battlestar (or any science fiction oriented) website.

I would like to invite everyone over to the PlanetSpace.com board for discussions about Battlestar Galactica and other space scifi show and movies. Hope to see you there!

Well I have blogged about the upcoming show - the hard questions - nice job on the site - you sure drove me a lot of traffic -

I love the blog that you have. I was wondering if you would link my blog to yours and in return I would do the same for your blog. If you want to, my site name is American Legends and the URL is:

www.americanlegends.blogspot.com

If you want to do this just go to my blog and in one of the comments just write your blog name and the URL and I will add it to my site.

Thanks,
David

Sorry to see that this blog has stopped updating. Just found it myself. I have the fortune of acting on BSG from time to time and have gathered quite the unexpected fan support. Everyone is free to check out my blog site: www.leochiang.com as I update with my on-set experiences. Thanks!

Good luck and sorry to see you go. I love the show and love this blog.

Thanks for being there, even though your coming to a close (just like the series).

Above link is a new-ish group BSG blog. Great to see the other bloggers/sites posted here too.

woops - the link didn't show. it's:

http://frakked.blogspot.com/

A shame, I enjoyed your blog :(

What do you think about creating a Battlestar Galactica's ring of blogs?
It coulb be just linking each others or creating a webring.

If you have any comments, or suggests just let me know on my BSG's blog:

http://estrelladecombate.blogspot.com

Thanks.
