Battlestar Galactica 2.5 DVD released Sept 19th

The second half of Battlestar Galactica, Season Two is released on DVD September 19th, 2006.

Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.0, vol 2 (2.5)

Now you tell me... could that title get any more confusing? :)

Remember, this set includes episodes 11-20 of season 2. Also included is the extended version of Pegasus. Some people are complaining about the price, but as of writing this, Amazon is giving you $17 dollars off... which is a pretty solid deal.

Cylon action figure photos

The San Diego Comic-Con had an exclusive number of Cylon action figures. Check out the photos:

Hands-on with the BSG CCG

Critical Gamers has a hands on look at the Battlestar Galactica collectible card game:

The Battlestar Galactica CCG seems to do a good job mixing things-up by simplifying certain game elements while adding complexity to others. For instance, there are only 3 types of resources (land types) which are used to play cards out of your hand. Simple. There's also a game mechanic that allows players to discard anything in their hand to add to their permanent resource generation. These simplifications streamline gameplay, and eliminate land starvation potentials.

The article is heavy on the CCG jargon, as it should be. I managed to turn my friend Kevin into a video gamer... maybe we can hook up some CCG action... probably not.

BSG Season 2 DVD Releases

A little more information has filtered onto the web regarding the release of season 2 for BSG:

We've got some DVD news that's going to make a lot of you happy. Universal has just officially announced the release of Battlestar Galactica: Season 2.5 for 9/19 (SRP $49.98). The 3-disc set will include all 10 of the remaining episodes from the season in anamorphic widescreen video with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, along with an extended version of the Season 2.0  cliff-hanger episode Pegasus. Additional extras will include all of producer Ron Moore's podcast commentaries, deleted scenes and producer David Eick's video journals. There's no word yet as to whether Season 2.0 and 2.5 will be sold together as a 2-pack, or as a single release at a later date.

This was reported by Digital Bits and pointed out by a BSG fan in the comments.

Galactica Station is reporting that in the UK, all 20 episodes are coming out in a single release:

The Sci-fi Channel's hottest TV series returns as Battlestar Galactica 2 blasts onto DVD. As the epic second season begins, the fight to save humanity rages on - even as civil war looms within the fleet between the followers of President Roslin and Commander Adama.

You can now preorder the DVD containing all 20 episodes of season 2 from Amazon UK

availability: Due for release on 14/08/2006
price: £34.99

DVDs everywhere! The summer is just flying by for me! There are going to be new episodes before we know it!

Official Soundtrack press release

This was sent to me by a rep from CineMedia Promotions. It is the official press release for the Season Two soundtrack:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: SEASON TWO SOUNDTRACK TO BE RELEASED BY LA-LA LAND RECORDS ON JUNE 20

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TOUTED AS ONE OF THE TOP 10 SHOWS CURRENTLY ON TV BY TIME MAGAZINE AND TV GUIDE

(June 1, 2006- New York, NY) – Considered one of the top 10 shows currently on TV by Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and TV Guide, Battlestar Galactica is the #1 show on the Sci Fi Channel.  On June 20, La-La Land Records will release the Battlestar Galactica: Season Two soundtrack, featuring more than 78 minutes of the best musical moments from the 2nd season of the Sci-Fi Channel's critically acclaimed, top-rated television series starring Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff.

Composer Bear McCreary builds on his impressive Season One accomplishments and once again delivers a sensational, emotionally rich score that ingeniously melds orchestra, vocals, percussion and synthesizer.  The Season Two CD contains few tracks which are longer in length.  Says McCreary, “The first one was a soundtrack.  The second one is an album.”

The Battlestar Galactica: Season Two soundtrack features performances by Supernova String Quartet (on “A Promise to Return” from The Farm), vocals by Raya Yarbrough (on “Lords of Kobol” from Pegasus), and vocals by Bt4 (on “The Cylon Prisoner” from Pegasus).  Former Oingo-Boingo members Steve Bartek, John Avila and Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez play on the track from “Black Market”.  And the main title theme from Battlestar Galactica, composed by Richard Gibbs, is also on the soundtrack.

Fans of the original series will be excited to see that the theme from the original Battlestar Galactica series, composed by Stu Phillips, has been adapted and arranged by McCreary.  The homage to the television show that inspired this new incarnation leads off the soundtrack.

Composer Bear McCreary is a classically trained composer with a degree in Composition and Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.  He has composed score for over thirty independent films, including director Jon Chu’s musical short When the Kids Are Away and the Discovery Channel miniseries The 5 Coolest Things.  McCreary was among a handful of select protégés of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN).

The third season of Battlestar Galactica will begin airing in October on the Sci Fi Channel.  The Battlestar Galactica: Season Two soundtrack will be available in stores or from www.lalalandrecords.com on June 20, 2005.  The soundtrack from the Battlestar Galactica mini-series and the Season One soundtrack are both available from La-La Land Records.

The top of the release is in CAPS in case you missed it. *smile*

Very soon it will be mine... very soon...

Galactica mini-busts

A reader emailed in the other day claiming that a shadowy preview photo was possibly the bust of a cylon. It turns out that person was 100% correct. Patrick Wang from shopafx.com emailed in with the news and a link to photos:

The hottest show on the Sci-Fi channel just got hotter! With a third season on the way this Fall, fans are hungry for Battlestar Galactica collectibles. AFX is honored to fill that need with the first in a line of upcoming mini busts. Made of polystone resin, this exclusive "premium format" mini bust stands approximately 7.5" tall, making it slightly larger than the upcoming standard releases.

It looks like you can only buy these at the San Diego Comic-Con. So if you needed an excuse to go, this might be it!... if you are a bust kind of person.

Book review: The Cylons' Secret

Timothy Sandefur has an advanced review posted about the Battlestar Galactica novel The Cylons' Secret. He wasn't that impressed:

I’ve just finished an advance reading copy of the new Battlestar Galactica novel. I won’t spoil the story for you, except to say that you shouldn’t get your hopes up. On the positive side, Gardner makes the story much more science fictiony than BSG has sometimes been; I’ve long thought that the show has been slightly overzealous in avoiding futurism. But the combination of deities ex machinae (three, by my count), marvelous coincidences (at least two), and complete lack of foreshadowing, render the plot utterly unbelievable and uninteresting.

That is sad to hear... It sounded like a really good premise. Anyone else have a different opinion?

Now, I am not a big comic reader, but the art seems ok to me. I have seen the comments from some saying it is poor... and like I say, I am not a connoisseur, but saying it sucks might be going a bit far. Am I crazy for liking it? I don't know about most of you... but am pretty excited for these comics.

Battlestar Galactica comic hits in July

Get your comic reading skills ready... July is right around the corner! Comic Book Resources has the news:

Following the top selling introductory Issue #0 (selling in excess of 175,000 copies!), Dynamite Entertainment has released images and information concerning the release of the first issue of the ongoing series focusing on SCI FI Channel’s hit original series Battlestar Galactica. The comic books are developed through a licensing agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group.

“First off, we would like to thank retailers and fans for their support! Issue #0 exceeded our wildest expectations, and we have high hopes for the equally strong debut of issue #1,” commented Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen. “Greg Pak and Nigel Raynor have knocked it out of this Galaxy and with the end of Issue #0 leading right into the opening of Issue #1, fans will not want to miss out of the first issue!”

Concerning the integration of the comic and the show, comic writer Greg Pak explained: “We’re 100 percent tied into the continuity of the television show — our storyline takes place in the middle of the second season, right after the return from Kobol and before the arrival of the Pegasus.”

I am waiting to just pick them all up at once on eBay. I did something similar for the Firefly (Serenity) comics and it worked out great. I can be lazy like that. :)

But that is not all... head out tomorrow and track down a TV Guide. Inside the May 22nd issue is an exclusive look at Issue #0 of the comic:

In cooperation with SCIFI, Universal and TV Guide, Dynamite’s Battlestar Galactica #0 will be featured in the May 22nd issue, with subscriptions begin being mailed on May 15, 2006. The exposure of the comic is expected to reach millions of TV Guides weekly readers, and through it the fans of SCI-FI’s hit TV series, Battlestar Galactica. An interview with series writer Greg Pak will be included to bring awareness of the comic to the potential untapped readers that TV Guide has to offer.

“We’ve been working on this for the past several months and could not say anything until now. TV Guide wanted an exclusive sneak peak of the interior pages, and were willing to work with us to promote the comics industry as part of the package, which to us is a key component. In our quest to help promote the comics industry, TV Guide is also promoting the 800 Comic Shop Locator Service (1-888-COMIC BOOK in the article. We ask that comics fans and retailers support TV Guide by picking up and carrying this issue. We’re thrilled it all came together!,” explained Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen. “From Army of Darkness to Red Sonja, we’ve been working with top sellers, and Battlestar Galactica has the ability to bring the most attention to the comics market. The opportunity here for us, the fans, retailers and the industry is once-in-a-lifetime as millions of readers will be able to find out about the comic (of the hit SCI FI TV Show), and use that opportunity to pick up the first issue, available for just a quarter! Frak Yeah!”

More info on BSG Titanium Ships

For those of you on the hunt for Titanium ships, here is some more info emailed in by Jason:

Target's DPCIstock number is 087 06 1624.  Their toy departments are in the process of "resetting" with new stock for the upcoming quarter, so chances are your store will be receiving fresh cases of Titanium, even if they've had the one lone Wookiee Flyer hanging around since MLK Day.

I found some of these over the weekend, and thought your other readers might want a small review.  They were at Wal-Mart, btw.  I had a gift card, otherwise I wouldn't go there, but I digress.  (No pictures, sorry!) They were $4.97 each plus tax.

GALACTICA:  3.5" long, metal body with extending plastic flight pods. Reasonable accuracy for the size, right down to the Colonial emblem on top.  The hole for the display stand is placed a bit further back than I'd like, so yours may tend to droop from the front-heaviness.  Unless you're desperate for one, I'd say wait for the 6-inch version in the summer.

RAIDER:  Again, exact in shape, even with the wing tips made of stiff but bendable plastic for safety.  I think Hasbro may need some correcting on details like painting, though.  The Raider is black and purple, with red only on the engine thruster tips.  No red eye, and although someone made an effort to include the old insignia, instead of two concentric pentagons, they put one hexagon on each wing--and the ones on mine were uneven.

VIPER:  Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, and guns on the wings and a pilot, and it just looks like a big Tylenol!  (Someone had already grabbed them when I got there, so feel free to insert your own Airplane reference.  I can post a review when I find one.)

More reports continue to surface (as well as photos) of people obtaining these little jewels of fun. If you have any links to reviews or photos, put them in the comments!

Galactica Titanium ships are OUT!

Jason emailed in with some great information about the Galactica Titanium ships!

Hey--just an FYI that the Galactica Titanium ships are OUT!  They have been spotted at Wal-Mart, and will show up elsewhere soon (Target, Toys R Us, etc.)  If you call a store to ask if they're in, here are a few tips:

  1. According to Entertainment Earth, they are in every case of 12 Titanium ships labeled as "Wave 6."  Should be at least one set of Viper, Raider and Galactica per case.
  2. They will be stocked with the Star Wars ones, so any stocker should be able to find "any Titanium that isn't Star Wars."
  3. The Toys R Us stock number for the Titanium ships is 340895.
  4. Pictures (and inflated prices) can be seen at eBay.

Hope this helps!

Oh it helps! Thanks Jason! As stated, you can find them on eBay.

More info on Majestic Studios action figures

Here is some more information about those Majestic Studios Battlestar Galactica action figures coming down the line:

CEO Rick Phares says, “The Cylon will be the most accurate figure we have released to date because we’re working directly from the original computer CGI files of it’s design from ZOIC, the special effects company responsible for bringing the Cylon to life on the screen.”

The Cylon will stand a towering 13 1/2-inches so that it will be in scale to the 12-inch human figures. It features interchangeable arms that can be switched to the Cylon’s trademark turret guns.

Lee “Apollo” Adama (portrayed by actor Jamie Bamber on the show) will be dressed in his leather-look fatigues and come with full flight gear, including helmet and his trusty blaster. He will have two interchangeable sets of hands so that you can switch from flight gloves on to gloves off.

Johnny Walker Blue Label

The Battlestar Galactica Sitrep had a good post about this:

On their podcast for Lay Down Your Burdens part 2, Ron Moore and David Eick noted that they were drinking some good stuff: Johnnie Walker Blue Label. (Or was it the Black Label?) Anyway, as their podcast continued on, and as their beverages started to kick in, they made some entertaining jokes. So, to those that have wondered, they were just joking about Olmos not coming back in season 3, and being replaced by CGI. (And they were just joking about season 3 taking place 5 years later.)

I actually went online looking for a bottle of blue label to pick up and try. I have never been a big scotch drinker, but I drink Maker's Mark from time to time, so I think it will be a nice step up for certain occasions.... Anyhow, turns out Blue Label runs around $200 a bottle from what I have seen. I guess you have to be a big-shot series producer like Ron Moore. ;)

I wouldn't be a true Battlestar geek if I didn't get my hands on a bottle eventually... I started drinking Earl Grey tea because Star Trek's Captain Picard did... if Blue Label makes the world go round for BSG... count me in!

Anyone recall if Adama has a favorite drink? I am blanking as to whether or not there is one.

BSG resin model kits

Sean Campbell picked up a Viper Mk II resin model kit from the Starship Modeler Store. Head over to his blog and check out the pictures:

Well, I just received a pretty cool resin kit the other day--a 1/72 scale Viper Mk II from the new Batttlestar Galactica Series. The Mk II is a sleek little beast, and this kit is a fairly good representation of it, although as I work on it I discover more and more minor issues.  One thing that's a total PITA though is the nose intake/vent which comes seperate and is a total bitch to attach and fair into the feuselage.

Galactica comic coming in May

Hollywood North Report has a link over to Comic Book Resources:

The Cylons were created by humans. They rebelled. Now there are less than 50,000 humans alive and in search of the fabled planet Earth. Oh, that’s the GOOD news. The remaining humans need to find a way to survive, despite their differences, and the Battlestar Galactica, the colonies’ last warship, is humanity’s last hope. Every Friday on the Sci-Fi network, fans race to their televisions to watch “Battlestar Galactica,” a thrilling update of the seventies cult classic, and fans have made it the network’s #1 program. Dynamite Entertainment announced their plans for a “BSG” series last year, and this May, fans will get their first taste of the series in a 25-cent issue #0, much like the way the company drew in readers with “Red Sonja,” Writer Greg Pak, who’s been making a name for himself at Marvel Comics, is writing the series and spoke to CBR News about working on the book, his plans and how he got involved.

“After the first issue of “X-Men: Phoenix - Endsong” hit the stands, I got a call from Dynamite,” explained Pak. “They initially wanted to talk about another project, but let slip that they had the rights to do the comic book tie-in to the new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series. I’d loved the old show as a kid but was absolutely blown away by the new show -- it’s the only television program in years that I’ve actually built my schedule around watching. The chance to be a part of anything associated with it was too good to let slip by.”

Update 2/12/2006 10:12pm CT

A man calling himself Jason wrote in with some additional details after I posted this entry:

Wanted to give you some more info on the BSG Titanium ships, based on the pictures you linked to at Rebelscum, and the Star Wars Titanium diecast line Hasbro's made so far. First, said ships come in 2 sizes, roughly 3-inch and 6-inch. The Mk II Viper, Raider and Galactica all come in 3-inch, with Galactica also in 6-inch (look for the picture where it's supported diagonally under a large plastic bubble--that comes with the package).  The pods will retract, btw.  If I knew when these were coming, I'd camp out somewhere to get them (except Wal-Mart).

Retracting pods? Holy crap! Thanks for the additional info Jason!

Galactica game has landed on your phone

As reported back in March of 2005, Galactica is making an appearance on cell phones near you:

In-Fusio announced the launch of an action-game based on the popular SCI FI Channel TV series, Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica game is available for download now worldwide, excluding Japan, for Java enabled handsets.Starting as a rookie pilot, players take over the controls of the Colonial Viper Mark VII high performance fighter, and are quickly drawn into the ongoing interstellar war. Fighting their way through 20 stunning, action-packed levels and a variety of missions, players will be put to the test as they battle head-to-head with the deadly Cylons.

Head over to the IN-FUSIO website for more information. The release date on their site says 1/20/2006, but it does not state specific carriers who are featuring the game, although it should be any JAVA enabled phones. Since the site is flash, I can't link to it directly, but you can get there by going to the NAVIGATOR drop down and selecting "All Games" then select "Battlestar Galactica".

If you can get this game on your phone, let me know how it is and what you think of it!

--

We all love Battlestar Galactica and I am sure we also have friends and family that love the show too! What better way to celebrate the gift giving season than with a BSG token of love? For your convenience, I have compiled a list of my favorite Galactica treasures:

First, the obligatory ones:

I also know of some people who don't have cable or satellite, meaning a perfect gift might be Dish Network, or Direct TV, or local cable so that they can watch the Scifi Channel and actually see the show! It might be something as simple as upgrading them to the package that carries Scifi! Or maybe your recipient is too busy to watch TV on a Friday night and they need a Tivo unit... or if they are a work-aholic, maybe a Sling Media device so they can watch BSG while working late on their work computer!

Watching the show is only the first part... remember the podcasts? That takes an iPod or some other MP3 player.

Of course there are other gifts besides the actual show! Does your recipient have an Xbox or a Playstation2? Maybe Battlestar Galactica the video game will tickle their fancy? Sure it is the classic series, but you still get to fly a Viper! I played it and honestly, it wasn't the greatest game in the world, but I am a sucker for space action games... so it was a good time.

If virtually flying a Viper isn't your style, maybe your special someone needs their very own Viper to put on their desk at work! They will be the envy of all their mates!

Remember the BSG Trading cards? I wish someone would buy those for me! Of course if you get the cards you will need a cool binder to keep them in!

Of course, why settle for pictures when you can have SIGNED pictures? Maybe a BSG Autograph would serve as the ultimate stocking stuffer?

There are always fan made T-shirts that will provide the unique gift that no one else has! And it isn't just T-shirts... CafePress lets you put those logos on almost anything! I think everyone needs a "FRAK" coffee mug... It should be included with your discharge papers when you leave the hospital with a newborn.

Do you know a BSG fan fiction writer who needs a present? Maybe some slick writing software will fit the bill? Or perhaps you know someone who spends all day making LiveJournal/Blog icons for the show? How about a brand spanking new version of Photoshop Elements? Or maybe you are loaded and can buy them the full version? I use a little package called Ulead Photo Impact that does just fine.

Maybe the fan you know is a gun geek? Why not get them their own Beretta Storm just like they use on the show? I hear it comes with all kinds of crazy accessories too! I am not a "gun" person... but I know people that are... maybe you do too?

There are lots of types of fans out there. I say when in doubt, just go to eBay and search on Battlestar Galactica... there are always some gems in there... you can't go wrong.

Merry Christmas to all... and if you don't believe in Christmas, or you don't celebrate it or something, than Happy Holidays!

What BSG gifts are you buying for people this year? Leave a comment! If you know of something cool I left off the list, let me know as well and I will add it in!

The new set includes 128 x 128 pixel renderings of Adama’s lighter, a Pegasus patch, pyramid ball, med kit, and three icons with cut corners: document, folder, and Galactica logs icons.

Build your own Lego Viper

Here are some step-by-step visual instructions for building a Viper out of Legos by Christopher Deck:

Some may know me from many MINI Star Wars models. But today’s post is a little different. I recently watched some classic episodes of Battlestar Galactica, an old SciFi series. I thought I’d give it a try and build some BS Galactica models, which I want to show you here.

More BSG Toys!

Someone by the name of Malnurtured Snay dropped me an email with information about some Battlestar Galactica and Stargate SG1 toys that will ride along side the Hasbro Titanium line of Star Wars toys:

Seems Hasbro has the license now for BSG and Stargate SG1.  Hasbro is
doing a line called "Unleashed" for its Star Wars license ... included in
this line (obviously not for Star Wars) are various BSG and SG1 toys.  I
found this at Phil Wise's "Rebelscum" site.

The important line items in the toy list are:

"The Titanium line is a bit more self sufficient and will branch out into
a couple of non-Star Wars assortments. New licenses to jump on for 2006
are Battlestar Galactica (PG) and Stargate (SG). Both new licenses will
shipped packed out with the Star Wars vehicles."

3Inch 1978 Cylon Raider vehicle
3Inch 2004 Scout ship vehicle
3Inch 1978 Viper vehicle

3Inch BG 04 Colonial 1
3Inch BG 04 Raptor
3Inch BG 04 Viper MK VII
3Inch SG Stargate with Stand
3Inch SG Death Glider ship

Interesting stuff! Thanks for the tip Malnurtured Snay! The article doesn't say specifically when the BSG toys are hitting retailers. It is mentioned that the first few waves of Star Wars toys will land in December. No clue if that will include any from the BSG bunch.

BSG action figures on the way!

BSG news has some exciting information to share:

Majestic Studios reports that they have signed a new licensing agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products for a line of 12-inch action figures pulled from the Sci-Fi Channel series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. This marks the first announcement of toy collectibles based on the popular TV series.

Yay for toys! However I am not really into the action figure thing... What I really want are some space ships! A sweet Lego licensing deal would make my day... I love me some Legos!

My Battlestar Galactica song

Here it is. My tribute to the great show captured in Techno/Trance form. You can stream/download it from the site I maintain for the music I write... Keylime. Or you can download it below:

A song inspired by Battlestar Galactica...
Representing the epic space battles and character heroics...

Leave comments. Let me know what you think! I had a ton of fun making it... even learned a few new things regarding resonance filters. I hope you enjoy.

WhizKids announces BSG CCG

Are you a CCG'er? I am not... but I have friends that are... yes Steve, I am talking about you!

WizKids Inc., creator of the runaway hit games HeroClix® and Pirates of the Spanish Main™, announced today its agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to develop a collectable card game (CCG) based on the new SCI FI Channel Battlestar Galactica series.

“We couldn’t be happier to add our tradition of innovative gaming to one of the hottest science fiction properties available,” said Mike Samora, vice president of Sales and Marketing at WizKids®. “The success of the television show has introduced a new generation to the Battlestar Galactica story, and a game is the natural expansion of that introduction.” The game, slated for release in early 2006, features characters, ships and familiar scenes from the miniseries and television show on the SCI FI Channel.

Game play will mirror the intrigue of the television show: Players won’t know whom to trust, who the Cylon agents are or where the next attack will come from! Players will battle for ownership of resources and influence in order to control the fleet.

I am sort of hoping they put another BSG video game together. I really wanted to like the last game that came out... I rented the xbox version but it just seemed boring. Did anyone play that? Did you enjoy it?

Custom Lego Viper on eBay

Tim Sandefur just emailed me this awesome EBAY link. It is a VIPER MARK VII custom lego creation:

Here we have a custom, fan-built Lego Mark VII Colonial Viper.  Viper model features opening cockpit with computer and controls, removable landing gear (yes, of course they're removable, it's Lego), triple weapons system and tri-engine configuration.  Includes Colonial pilot mini figure with helmet and ejection survival pack. Very cool little model.

Bid while you can!

It looks like the guy does a ton of amazing lego work.

Thanks Tim!

Region 4 BSG DVD review

Tama Leaver at the blog Ponderance emailed me to warn fans in the region 4 DVD zone. I am not normally one to post negative reviews on this blog (I like to live in a happy BSG world), but after reading his review, the release does sound a bit pathetic:

...if you're going to release a half-baked set, at least put some effort into some menu-art that doesn't look like it was photoshopped by a mentally-challenged mongoose!

Read the whole DVD review... and then steer clear it sounds like.

Any other region 4 people have an opinion?

Learn about war propaganda thanks to BSG

BSG Tactical Review has uncovered a weird and confusing little piece of Battlestar Galactica content targeted at the classroom:

SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica curriculum materials are for high school English and writing teachers. Each of the five lessons is aligned with the curriculum standards endorsed by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Because the lessons are independent from one another, teachers can use any or all of them in any order.

Read more about this program

Most interesting is the Propaganda Game which requires age authentication:

In times of war, propaganda has been used effectively both to build support for and to silence criticism of the war. War propaganda has a rich history of affecting the public in both positive and negative ways. This is your chance to probe propaganda, both historically and in the world of the war between humans and Cylons in Battlestar Galactica.

First, you will piece together a puzzle as you explore different aspects of war propaganda. Each part of the puzzle examines a question, so you need to explore all of the questions in order to complete the puzzle. Immediately, you will see that it is an interactive exploration filled with authentic examples of war propaganda.

Once you complete your puzzle, it's time to take on the game. The game will challenge you to create your own war propaganda as though you were in the midst of the conflict between the humans and the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica. Before beginning the game, you will receive specific instructions on how to play.

Play the game

If anyone knows the story behind this, I would be fascinated to listen. If you read the FAQ there is also a show that is being run on the Sci Fi Channel to match the materials:

Tape the Cable in the Classroom Battlestar Galactica War Stories documentary special. The 22-minute special will be broadcast on the SCI FI Channel commercial-free every Monday morning at 5:30 A.M. EST from November 17 through the end of December. If you choose to use more than one lesson plan in your class, the documentary only needs to be watched in its entirety once.

Maybe it will make more sense then!

BSG Icons from Icon Factory

These are pretty sweet:

Six icons from the new Battlestar Galactica series

They say they are optimized for Mac OSX, but they do work with Windows.

Galactica novel getting closer!

According to the author Jeffrey Carver, the Battlestar Galacitca novelization is getting closer to release:

I finished correcting the proofs for Battlestar Galactica today. A book always feels different when you see it typeset, and I'm happy to say that it I was pleased by the way it came out. I enjoyed reading it (not always true of reading my own stuff), and I got excited in the right places, and felt for the characters in the right places. So my hopes are high. Still no official word from the studio yet, but assuming nothing goes wrong there, it's in Tor's schedule for February 2006. If the Good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise.

Find out what else he is up to...

The book is already available for pre-order from Amazon, get it while it's hot!

The guns of Kobol

The Hell in a Handbasket blog brings us another Galactica gun-spotting:

In this post I discussed the various guns used as props in the new cable TV show Battlestar:Galactica. Two readers have left comments letting me know that a new firearm was being featured in recent episodes. This is understandable considering that the show is 2 weeks into the 2nd season.

It took me awhile to find the time to watch the recording I made of the shows, but I finally managed to do that last night. My sharp-eyed readers are correct, the new long gun used by crash survivors is the Beretta CX4 Storm.

Check out the full post with picture

The post is very full of gun-speak... but it is still cool to get some real info about the props used in the show.

Season 1 DVD Amazon Pre-order

It looks like the time has come to get your Season 1 DVDs of Battlestar Galactica!

Battlestar Galactica (2004): Season One (5pc) ($41.99)

Here is the first review on Amazon:

For fans of this show
=====================
This is the best value for money as it includes the mini-series (sells for $20+ as stand-alone DVD), as well as other extras and deleted scenes, some of which may be available at scifi.com, but having them at DVD-quality is a big plus.

For SciFi fans
==============
This is at the same level as Babylon 5. It is a must see. This is "realistic" sci-fi but very creative, complex, thought provoking, at times dark, but also with the scifi special effects, spaceships and space battles.

For non-Scifi fans
==================
This is a show about the human condition, especially when pushed to the edge. It is a drama set in space that touches upon a variety of issues, such as family dramas, politics, religion, military, survival, etc. There are no aliens with fancy outfits and gallons of makeup here: Just humans, cylons (robotic and humanoid) and the dark emptiness of space.

More information about the BSG DVD release

If you are planning on picking up a copy of Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 on DVD, make sure you read the latest information over at BSG News:

As most people are aware, the Best Buy Exclusive BSG S1 DVD set is due for release next week. The downside of this set is that there appears to be few extras and it's fairly expensive. The sole upside appears to be that you'll be able to obtain it a full two months before anyone else in the US. Well, we can't make the street date any earlier for the general retailer release in the US but we can bring to you a reason to wait on buying the disks- all the goodies on the regular release. See for yourself.

So there are TWO different DVD versions? What is up with these traditional media distributors lately? I just don't get it.

<sarcasm>I have an idea! Lets make it as hard as possible to sell our product by releasing it late and putting out multiple versions! Sounds like a recipe for success! </sarcasm>

Honestly, I am sure there is a very good reason for all of this... I hope someone can explain it to us. If you are in the DVD distribution biz, chime in and let us know the need for all this complexity. I remember reading somewhere that the reason for the delayed DVD release was the cost of creating the subtitles in all the required languages. Maybe the need for two different versions is something similar?

How to make a 'Cylon Shooter'

Justine of the Tahmoh Penikett blog has a fun post. How to make a Cylon Shooter to drink while watching this weeks premier episode!

Thanks to Galacticaa.net, a great new BSG site, you too can make a "Cylon shooter," a drink invented by Grace Park that made its debut on the recent Sci-Fi Inside Special

Battlestar eBay Friday
